报告简介

Since the early 1990s, management scholars have theorized and researched the psychological facets of executive tenure and the resulting effect on organizations, but few studies have examined the micro-foundations related to CEO tenure from a cognitive perspective. Using content analysis methodology to analyze annual letters to shareholders from CEOs in the prepackaged software industry from 1992 to 2012, our study examines how CEO tenure affects the psychological micro-foundations of task interest, commitment to the status quo, and self-focus. To facilitate this study, we introduce new measures for the constructs of CEO task interest and self-focus. Within the context of this highly dynamic and high discretion industry, we find that CEO task interest, commitment to the status quo, and CEO self-focus are associated with increased tenure in a manner that is consistent with previous theoretical explanations.
