There are nine departments, namely, department of Mechanical Design Engineering, department of Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering, department of Mechatronic Engineering, department of Vacuum and Equipment Processing Engineering, department of Power Machinery and Engineering, department of Cryogenic and Refrigeration Engineering, Engineering Drawing. In addition, more than 20 research institutions and centers such as Anhui Key Laboratory of Digital Design and Manufacturing, and Tribology Institute also shoulder the responsibility of teaching and research.
At present, altogether 246 faculties and staff members work in the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, including 41 professors, 97 associate professors and 120 instructors, among whom 61 received doctor degree and 59 are Ph.D candidate. The school has an enrollment of 4,100 undergraduate students, 1,200 graduate students and 164 doctoral candidates.
Scientific research has always been one of the most important issues for the school in the course of its development. Thanks to the collaborative efforts made by faculties, the school has made considerable achievement both in the quantity and in the quality of its research programs. For the past 5 years, the school has undertaken more than 100 projects including National 863 Planning Projects, National Science and Technology Support Program, Natural Science Foundation and so on with research grant of more than RMB 30 million.
To contribute to local economy and help local enterprises tackle technological issues, the school has set up research institutes and centers, collaborating with several enterprises. Remarkable achievements have been made due to hard work and scientific management. In the recent 5 years, the school has won several national and provincial awards and published 3,000 papers in national and international academic journals, forming several distinctive and influential research fields.
