YU Qijun, a native of Tongcheng, Anhui Province, was born in November, 1962. Professor YU is a PhD supervisor and a Distinguished Professor of “Pearl River Scholar” of Guangdong Province.
Professor YU graduated from the Department of Inorganic Non-Metallic Materials Science and Engineering, Shandong Institute of Building Materials in June 1983. He got his master degree from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Wuhan University of Technology in June 1986 and joined the staff of WHUT upon graduation. He received his Ph.D. from Wuhan University of Technology in 1993. From May 1995 to April 1999, he was a visiting researcher at the Department of Civil Engineering, Hachinohe University of Technology, Japan; From May 1999 to August 2001, he was a research assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering at Niigata University, Japan, and a postdoctoral researcher at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). He has been a professor at South China University of Technology since September 2001. He was a visiting professor at Niigata University from November 2001 to March 2002. In 2004, Professor YU became PhD supervisor. In November 2003, he was appointed Deputy Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of South China University of Technology and in 2009 he was appointed Dean. In September of 2010, Professor Yu was awarded as Distinguished Professor of “Pearl River Scholar” of Guangdong Province. In July 2012, he served as Assistant to the President of South China University of Technology and dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering. In December 2012, he served as Assistant to President of the University South China Institute of Technology and Director of the Human Resources Department. In June 2013, he became Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of South China University of Technology. In January 2019, he was appointed Secretary of the Party Committee of Hefei University of Technology.
Professor YU’s main research interests are cement and concrete engineering, concrete durability, environmental impact of building materials, waste recycling and etc. He has successively undertaken a number of national "973" and "863" projects, the national "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" and "13th Five-Year Plan" and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key projects, and enterprises commissioned scientific research projects, etc. He has won more than 20 patents, one silver medal of the Brussels International Invention Fair and four provincial science and technology awards, and he has published more than 200 academic papers.
Professor YU concurrently served as a member of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Materials Steering Committee of the Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, the Deputy Chairman of the Teaching Guidance Subcommittee of the Inorganic Non-Metallic Materials, and the Vice Chairman of the Cement Branch of the China Silicate Society.
