School of Computer and Information

The School of Computer and Information was officially established in 1996 whose origin could be traced back to the Department of Radio Engineering founded in 1958. It was reorganized based on three former units: Department of Computer Science and Information, Center for Computer Science, and Institute of Micro-Computer. The school now consists of three departments, ten research institutes and one lab center. The departments and institutes are as follows: Department of Computer Science and Technology, Department of Electronic Information Engineering, Department of Communications Engineering. The following are the ten research institutes:Institute of Computer Applied Technology, Institute of Computer Software and Theory, Institute of Computer Architecture, Institute of Security of Network and Information, Institute of Distributed Control, Institute of Basic Education for Computer, Institute of Affective Computing, Institute of Signal & Information Process, Institute of  Circuits & Systems and Institute of Communication and Information System.

About 203 faculty and staff members work in the school. Among them are 22 doctoral supervisors and 100 master supervisors as well as 118 professors and assistant professors. The school has several specialists and a large number of excellent young teachers and researchers. Their achievements include:Ten Prominent Youths of Jianghuai Area” and “Outstanding Teachers of Anhui Province.”

The school has six majors for undergraduates (Computer Science and Technology, Information Security, Internet of Things, Electronic Information Engineering, Electronic Information Science and technology). The three majors of Computer Science and Technology, Information & Communications Engineering and Software Engineering have doctorate degree awarding spots of first grade discipline and three post-doctoral research stations. The school also has Engineering Research Center of Safety Critical Industrial Measurement and Control Technology, Ministry of Education and Provincial Key Lab for Affective computing. At the end of 2012, the school produced more than 2,600 graduates (2,500 of them with M.S. and 150 with Ph.D. degrees). The school runs the Computer Application Federation of China Instrument and Control Society, Research Association of Computer Education in Colleges and Universities of Anhui Province and China Computer Federation Hefei Branch.

The school has carried out numerous national and provincial key research and development projects which includes “973 Project” (National Key Basic Research Program), “863 Project” (The National Hi-tech R & D Program of China) and Chinese National Natural Science Foundation, with an average total funding of 40 million RMB every year. Recently the school has won a large number of national and provincial prizes for progress in science. The school has become an important research driving force in the related fields especially in the following areas: Distributed Control, Intelligent Processing Information, DSP Technology and Application, Data Mining and Al, Affective Computing and Machine Intelligence, Computer Graphics and Visualization, SOC in Embedded System, Computer Network & Information Security, Signal Detection & Nondestructive Testing and Multimedia Information System.

Adhering to the spirit of “honor and responsibility”, the school will develop scientifically and harmoniously to attain a high research level with the belief of “emphasizing the leading role of discipline development, strengthening teaching and research, focusing on talent preparation, and providing guarantee through administration and experiment”.
