On August 31, the 4^thAnhui Province College Students’ “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition On-site Finalwas held in Beng Bu. HFUT projects “New Portable Granted Voice Interpretation Bracelet” and “3D Animation Master” won the champions of the “Innovative Ideas” group and “Start-up and Developing Enterprises” group respectively. HFUT teams also swept 8 gold medals, 8 silver medals, 18 bronze medals, and was awarded 2 Best Organization prizes.

The competition was hosted by Anhui Provincial Department of Education and Beng Bu Municipal People’s Government. It was jointly carried out by Hefei University of Technology, Anhui University of Finance and Economics, Hefei University and Education Bureau of Beng Bu. Anhui Branch of China Construction Bank is the co-organizer.

The competition was a trial for the Fourth China College Students’ “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. It encourages the projects in the area of applying new information technologies such as Mobile Internet, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Internet of Things in both economic and social fields. The main track included four groups: “Innovative Ideas”, “Start-up”, “Developing-enterprises” and “Employment and Entrepreneurship”. International track was open as well to invite outstanding young people worldwide to participate in this event with young Chinese.

The 4th Anhui Province College Students’ “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

Since its official launch in March, the competition attracted more than 100,000 students from 96 colleges and universities in Anhui Province with 24,000 entries. 580 projects entered into the provincial finals through preliminaries at the college and university level. 184 out of the 580 projects edged into the provincial on-site finals after expert review. The on-site finalists have the chance to break into the national competition.

About 3000 students in 500 teams from HFUT signed up for the competition. 34 teams were selected to take part in the provincial final competition and 16 fought their way to the on-site finals. Two teams stood out from all the other rivals with their excellent performance, and eventually won the champions.

Before the awarding ceremony, HFUT Professor Yang Shanlin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering delivered a speech entitled Artificial Intelligence and Its Prospects. HFUT President Liang Liang addressed the awarding ceremony on behalf of the organizers. In his address, he expressed his congratulations and thanks to all the contestants and their coaches. He said HFUT has established a successful teaching and education system that develops students’ innovation and entrepreneurship, beyond providing a solid technical education to its students, and HFUT will continue to foster and nurture the students' innovative abilities and entrepreneurial spirit.
