Team HFUT China won the gold medal in its debut at the 10thInternational Genetically Engineered Machine competition (iGEM) held from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3.
The entry of HFUT China—software “BioDesigner” is the first recommendation software based on the analysis of existing devices to recommend biobricks for participators when they are designing new devices. The recommendations were made by collecting the information of existing devices that have been invented in the past iGEMs and making analysis on these devices through adapting collaborative filtering and association rules.
BioDesigner is accredited as “an incredible work for the first-time competitor” and “highly innovative and impressive” by Professor Raik Grünberg and Professor Gil Alterovitz, Chairs of the iGEM Software track.
Founded by MIT in 2004, iGEM is a top-level synthetic biology competition in the world. The 10thiGEM attracted 247 teams across the world from many world-known universities like Harvard, MIT, Yale, UC Berkeley, Cambridge and famous universities in China like Peking, Tsinghua, Fudan and USTC.
