In the past few days, FSAE (Formula SAE /Formula Student) was held inEngland’s Silverstone, on which the first FIA Formula 1 World Championship was held. Almost 3,000 students from 106 teams attended the match, representing 37 countries:England,Germany,Canada,Egypt,China,Korea,Australiaand so on. Among all Asian teams, only HFUT Yun Racing Team passed the strict safety inspection of electric apparatus and finished the competition. The team ranked the 28th in the final grade and won the 4th place in the individual competition of fuel efficiency.

HFUT Yun Racing Team is the only team fromChinain the match this time and the first Chinese team which attended the FSAE inEngland. During the match, our team communicated actively with the teams from other countries, especially those top European ones such as TU Delft from Holland, Stuttgart fromGermany, Zurich fromSwitzerland. The communication revolved around advanced technology of production and control, for instance, wheel motor, carbon fiber integrated suspension, 3-D printing technology for key parts, and so on.

University of Birmingham has always maintained good cooperation with HFUT. After the match, Prof. Duc Truong Pham, president of School of Mechanical Engineering, an academician of The Royal Academy of Engineering, invited Huang Jingrong, president of the School of Innovation, HFUT, Zhang Daisheng, party secretary of School of Machinery and Automobile Engineering, and associate professor Jiang Wuhua, instructor of the team to visit labs, and postgraduates’ studio in University of Birmingham. Both sides have the intention to collaborate in the field of educating undergraduates in the mode of “2+2”.
