time: Nov 8, 2014

HFUT representative team won the 1st prize in the national final of the 8th CEDC (College Chemical Engineering Design Contest) with outstanding performance in both design works and oral defense on the scene.

Held in Changzhou University from August 17 to August 20, the contest attracted 1,546 teams from 217 universities inChinaincluding Tianjin University, Zhejiang University, East China University of Science and Technology and Dalian University of Technology. The contest lasted 3 months with 48 teams entering the national final from 7 major contest divisions out of 847 teams from 197 universities that submitted their designs.

This year’s CEDC, with the topic of “designing a branch factory that applies clean production techniques in formulating PX for a large-scale comprehensive chemical engineering company”, required students to design a modern chemical engineering factory with IPR and a worth of several billion yuan by employing emulation, simulation, design and calibration software such as Aspen Plus and 3D Plant. The design contest can be subdivided into around 20 projects like process design, pipeline design, automation design, equipment design, plant layout, economic estimation and feasibility analysis.

Jointly hosted by Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China, China Education Association of Chemical Industry and Sub-committee on College Chemical Engineering and Technology Education of Ministry of Education, CEDC is a top-notch chemical engineering contest with the largest scale and greatest influence inChina. With an overall assessment on college students’ application of chemical engineering knowledge and chemical design software as well as their innovation awareness, it is dedicated to fostering their capabilities of modern engineering design, team working, engineering practice and innovation.
