The 70thanniversary of Hefei University of Technology will fall on October 7, 2015. Hereby, we’d like to extend a sincere gratitude and high tribute to the leaders, friends from various circles, alumni at home and abroad and all the faculties and students.
The past 70 years have witnessed HFUT’s unrelenting pursuit of excellence. Hefei University of Technology was born on 1945 in Bengbu, north Anhui as Bengbu Industrial Vocational School. In 1947, the school expanded and was moved to Huainan in north central Anhui with a new name of Huainan Coal Vocational College. It started to take off after it was the administration of PRC since 1949. After relocated to Hefei in 1956, it was finally named as Hefei University of Technology and was enlisted among the national key universities in 1960. HFUT underwent significant shifts in its organization and administration from late 1960s to 1970s. It merged with Anhui Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydraulic Power and Anhui Institute of Technology and fell under the administration of Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Machinery and Ministry of Machinery and Electronics Industry in succession.
Since the reform and opening up of China, HFUT has been on the fast lane for development. It has been scaling new heights continuously after falling under the administration of Ministry of Education. It was enlisted among the Project 211 in 2005 and Project 985 Innovation Platform for Key Disciplines in 2009. After the construction of Xuancheng Campus in 2012, HFUT experienced another major shift in its power, becoming jointly funded by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Industry of Information Technology as well as Anhui Provincial Government in 2013. HFUT has gradually transformed itself from a vocational school to a high-level innovative university during the course of 70 years.
Over 270,000 students have graduated from the university. With an area of nearly 4.08 million m² spanning four campuses, HFUT boasts three national key disciplines, one national key (Developing) discipline, 12 post-doctoral programs, 12 first-level disciplines for doctoral programs, 32 first-level disciples with authorization to confer master degrees and 86 undergraduate programs. With almost 52,000 full-time students on campus, HFUT has already become an importance base for nurturing talents, conducting scientific studies, providing social services, carrying forward the traditional culture and heralding innovation.
The past seven decades have polished the character of HFUT. With adamant commitment to the rejuvenation of Chinese nation and social progress, it has been consistently building up its strength with persistence and dedication, as is best manifested in the university motto “pursuing virtue and knowledge, seeking truth and innovation”. With a strong focus in engineering in disciplines, the university has also been vigorously developing science and liberal arts. Apart from scientific research and development, HFUT has also placed great importance on putting the researches into practices with strong cooperation with enterprises so that the students would be practical and innovative in their career after graduation, hence making importance contribution to the building of our socialism with Chinese characteristics.
As the 70thanniversary of HFUT approaches, we earnestly invite you to join us in celebration of this important day. It’s a great time for us to reflect on the past and look into the future. At present, HFUT holds fast to the “four comprehensives” proposed by the central leadership, sticks to the fundamental goal of fostering virtue through education, comprehensively implements reform and the rule of law in a bid to realize the two “centenary goals” and the Chinese dream. We sincerely welcome all the leaders, alumni at home and abroad, faculties and students and friends from all circles to attend this spectacular event, contribute your ideas and look forward to our bright future.
