HFUT DMiC PhD Student Wins CCF Distinguished PhD Thesis Award 2014

PhD Student Yu Kui from DMiC (Data Mining and Intelligent Computing Laboratory), School of Computer and Information, HFUT received the Distinguished PhD Thesis Award 2014 from CCF (China Computer Federation) for his thesis – “Online Knowledge Discovery with Streaming Features”.

The thesis appraisal started from September, 2014, with a submission of 37 PhD theses from 25 universities and research institutes. Undergoing five procedures of formal examination, peer review, preliminary selection notice, secret ballot and final review, 10 PhD students from HFUT, Nanjing University, Tsinghua University, and National University of Defense Technology, amongst others, received the honor. Dr. Yu is also the first PhD Student in HFUT who has ever been granted with this award.

Eight representative papers were published from “Online Knowledge Discovery with Streaming Features” on distinguished journals and conference journals such as TPAMI, TKDE, The Computer Journal, ICML, ACM KDD and IEEE ICDM.

Distinguished PhD Thesis Award was inaugurated in 2006 by CCF with a purpose of encouraging innovative research and prompting scientific progress in China’s computer area. The award is conferred annually with a maximum conference of 10 theses. After eight years’ of development, the award has become influential in the computer academics, drawing a large number of thesis submissions each year.
