The 5th Data Mining and Intelligent Computing Forum was held in Tunxilu Campus, HFUT from August 9 to 10. Vice President of HFUT, members of University Academic Committee, School of Computer and Information and Anhui Society of Artificial Intelligence as well as over 230 faculties, research fellows and graduate students inChinaattended this forum.
Professor Wu Xindong, National Specially-Appointed Expert under “The Scheme of One Thousand Talents”, Changjiang Scholar of Ministry of Education, Overseas Chinese Young Scholar, IEEE Fellow, AAAS Fellow and Head of Innovation Team under the Ministry of Education, delivered an opening speech for the forum.
Initiated by Professor Wu Xindong, the forum was hosted by HFUT Data Mining and Intelligent Computing Laboratory (DMiC). The forum conducted exchanges on the cutting-edge researches and strategic application of data mining and intelligent computing as well as of Big Data aligned with the national strategic development goal.
Many distinguished scholars and experts gave lectures at the forum such as Academician Tang Tieniu from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Yang Shanlin from HFUT and Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Zhang Shichao, Vice President of Guangxi Normal University, Changjiang Schloar Zheng Qinghua from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Professor He Xiaohei, winner of National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars from Zhejiang University and Professor Chen Enhong, winner of National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars from University of Science and Technology of China.
At the opening Ceremony, Professor Wu concluded DMiC’s achievements in the past 5 years on scientific programs, papers, awards and application for National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program) and National Basic Research Program (973 Program) and reviewed the enrollment of Dynamic Information Processing from Multiple sources into “Innovation Team Development Plan 2013” under the Ministry of Education.
Afterward, Academician Tang gave the first lecture on “Large-Scale Visual Computing”, touching upon the major problems and research progress of the large-scale visual computing and briefly introduced the trends of the subject. Professor Wu gave another lecture on “Knowledge Automation”, during which he put forward the research direction of Big Data driven by Big Date and consumer demand with the purpose of knowledge acquisition, processing and service.
On August 10, Academician Yang reported on “Big Data Researches”, bringing forward the resource-based view of Big Data from the angle of management. The report briefed on the Big Data research progress at home and abroad with highlights on Big Data application in management.
The serial academic reports at the two-day forum such as “Challenges of Cognitive Learning in Big Data Era and Solutions”, “kNN Classification”, “Opportunities and Strategies in Marketing Based on Social Data Mining” and “Machine Learning in Big Data Era” were well received by the participants with heated discussions and exchanges. The lasting success of Data Mining and Intelligent Computing Forum since its founding is a testimony to DMiC’s influence in data mining and computing and will cement the development of DMiC and its seeking of cooperation on higher levels and larger scales in the future.
